Lasting Power Of Attorney
This document is your written authority appointing someone to manage your affairs when you are unable to do so.
For instance you may be abroad.
You may be incapacitated.
In the event that you lose mental capacity the authority continues.
Although it is sometimes a difficult subject to approach, it can be very important to plan these things well in advance. The important point to note is that this is a "lasting" power. In other words it survives the incapacity of the maker. If someone becomes incapable of managing their affairs it is then too late to put this in place. The alternative is much more complicated and so it makes good sense to put these issues in order, in advance, in case they are ever needed. Foster Wells can provide you with expert advice and assistance on all aspects of the law and procedure of Powers of Attorney.
